What is a Chamber of Commerce?
The Fayette Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary membership organization of businesses and professional people, non-profit agencies, and individual community-minded members. Chambers of Commerce have been in America since before the American Revolution (ours, since 1925), and are dedicated to the development and advancement of the professional, business, educational, civic, and cultural well-being of our community. Contrary to popular belief the Fayette Chamber is NOT a part of the city of Uniontown or any other governmental entity. The Chamber is funded primarily by its membership dues.
Who Can Be a Chamber Member?
Traditionally, members of a Chamber of Commerce come from the business and professional sector of a community. However, because of the unique needs of each community, there is no hard or fast rule. Anyone with an interest in community development may join a Chamber and work towards its goals of economic progress and improved quality of life for the betterment of ALL of its citizens.
Who is the Fayette Chamber?
Fayette Chamber members are primarily small business owners (employing fewer than 10 employees) and professionals (such as lawyers, physicians, accountants, etc.). About 20% of the members represent larger community employers, such as banks, manufacturers, hospitals, and other health care organizations. Nearly 10% are employed in community service organizations, are self-employed, are retired, or simply community-minded individuals concerned with progress.
Can I Get My Information Listed on Your Chamber Website?

What Do Chambers of Commerce Do?
Chambers are a reflection of its collective members. Some may concentrate more heavily on political and governmental affairs that relate to business; others are mostly involved in tourism promotion and information. And still others function exclusively as community service organizations. The Fayette Chamber wears many hats—with broad goals—to help businesses prosper and grow, including: workforce and economic development initiatives, increase job opportunities; encourage planned growth and development of all segments of the community; contribute to a healthy economy; promote tourism; and provide information about the area to the public.
Who “Runs” the Chamber?
The Chamber is run by its members. They elect a Board of Directors that determine policies and priorities. The Fayette Chamber has a 36-member Board of Directors (including a President), all of whom are volunteers from the membership. Day-to-day operations are provided by a paid full-time staff of four (an Executive Director, Membership Services Coordinator, Fayette Business Education Partnership Coordinator, and an Office Assistant), employed by the Board to administer membership services, provide services and information to the public, and to provide staff support services for the Chamber’s membership committees and their projects.
